The Frog King vs. The Swan Maiden

"The Beauty and The Beast" “The Frog King” and “The Swan Maiden” are tales that are supposed to resemble the plot of beauty and the beast. In “The Frog King”, the frog was the special prince at the ending of the tale. However, at the end of “the Swan Maiden” the swan was the special princess. These two tales both have a similar background and story, but they put emphasis on the gender of the hero/heroine. In the original beauty and the beast, beauty loved beast for he was and overlooked the physical aspect of  him. She made sure she took advantage of the time they had together and did not miss out on any opportunity to cherish the moment. In “The Frog King”(aka tale one), the princess is the one in search of a man. She comes into contact with a frog who she throws around. However, when she throw him around one good time, he hits the wall and turns into this handsome prince. This prince tells beauty that he has a spell against him so he need to head to the kingdom so t...

Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood Blog 3

Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood Budd Root created this cartoon titled “Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood. This is a social cartoon that could be for pure entertainment. But, I think it is meant for more of an adult audience. Still, this cartoon could also be a representation of how Root sees the tale Little red Riding Hood. The cartoon has a very sexual appeal with a beast like figure. The wolf looks as if he wants to devour red riding hood and from the persona of riding hood one may not blame him for having this desire. In this cartoon, there are the two main characters; the wolf and Red Riding Hood. Usually red riding hood is “little” but in this cartoon, however, she is resembling a woman who is comfortable revealing herself and showing lots of skin. She is not depicted as innocent and naive but more seductive and mature. Her cape does not cover the majority of her body and her clothing underneath is very slim. In the original tale of Little Red Riding Hood the little girl was dresse...

FOLK AND FAIRYTALE BLOG 2 A fairytale is a make believe, fictional, story, made up of different characters who all resemble different traits. Often times, fairytales are miniature stories dedicated to children, although some adults have the tendency to read them for educational purposes. Fairy Tales include mythical creatures, magical beings, and dwell in the supernatural world resembling a Utopia.  Most fairytales start with “once upon a time..” and ends with “happily ever after”. Fairytales are forms of literature that have taken on the written form and can not be copyrighted. They have both monogenesis and polygenesis origins and are studied and categorized based on structure. On the other hand, Folktales are derived from origin and may completed orally. However, some folktales have now been published. Folktales normally appeal to the senses of adults through stories that express their fears derived from their imagination. Folktales may evoke different solutions to everyd...

Folk and Fairy Tales   Why did I choose this course? I am majoring in Elementary Education and have always wanted to become a teacher. When I came across this course I got extremely excited because I love disney movies and watching fairy tales. I noticed that the class had multiple readings that were embedded in the course. I figured these books could contribute to how I structure my classroom and cater to the younger children I will be teaching. I also wanted to take a course that was apart of the McDaniel plan. However, I wanted to take something that captured my attention. What are you hoping to accomplish in this course? In this course I want to be able to dissect the literature aspect of fairytales and different folk tales. I want to learn about other fairy tales other than the Disney ones. I have never read any fairy tales, but I always watched movies of them, so this will be a different experience for me. I want to have a deeper understanding of fairytales...
