Final Blog

In this class I have learned so much and grown so much as a person. I originally came into this class thinking we was going to discuss the function of fairytales and the different variations. After attending the class and diving into the first few tales I learned that the class was going to be very different. Reading all the different kinds of tales and examining the different authors and writers I became more intrigued in the class. I know this was supposed  to be a fairytale class but I just had no clue what the substance of the class was going to be. However, after I took the time to read the material and make the class what I wanted it to be I was able to grasp onto concepts more.

Overall, I liked the material covered and the way it was presented. All the group projects we had and the time we took out in class to complete the quizzes was very helpful. I also liked the times when we was able to talk about the tales as a class and have the mini presentation by the students. That was very insightful and I was glad to have the students teach.
The material was not challenging. It was pretty easy to grasp. When I actually read the readings and the chapters I was able to connect with the readings and I could comprehend the material being presented.

This class was pretty easy and interesting. I was not ever bored and I enjoyed my time in the class. I would recommend this class to multiple people because it brings out the responsible side. Although we are talking about fairy tales we took it from multiple perspectives and time periods. Ultimately, I am very proud of my success and competition of this class. I really liked having you as a teacher as well.

Jocelyn's Blog Review I read Jocelyn Hill’s blogs and found out some interesting information about her. In her most recent blog she shared an anecdote about a personal experience that related to the presentation given by K’Olewe’s. Not only did she do that, but she also slowly progressed into the “answer” to the question. She spoke about what stuck out to her the most and what she enjoyed. She was also very descriptive in her language about the lady who came to visit. She said how she wore a "detailed beaded anklet". I felt as if I was present. Most times when I did my blog I just spoke about the topic at hand, so it was interesting to read her blog and see the difference in style. Moving on to her other two blogs I really like the pictures and the short video she incorporated. She added the picture that correlated to what she was discussing in the blog. In blog 6 she again found a way to tie the fairytale to a scenario in reality. Jocelyn played and argued both ...

Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood Blog 3

Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood Budd Root created this cartoon titled “Big Bad Wolf/Red Riding Hood. This is a social cartoon that could be for pure entertainment. But, I think it is meant for more of an adult audience. Still, this cartoon could also be a representation of how Root sees the tale Little red Riding Hood. The cartoon has a very sexual appeal with a beast like figure. The wolf looks as if he wants to devour red riding hood and from the persona of riding hood one may not blame him for having this desire. In this cartoon, there are the two main characters; the wolf and Red Riding Hood. Usually red riding hood is “little” but in this cartoon, however, she is resembling a woman who is comfortable revealing herself and showing lots of skin. She is not depicted as innocent and naive but more seductive and mature. Her cape does not cover the majority of her body and her clothing underneath is very slim. In the original tale of Little Red Riding Hood the little girl was dresse...

LECTURE ANALYSIS  In India, there is this idea of possession. Women are far more affected by this idea than anyone else. However, in Folklore, there are some key points that are shared between the Indian culture and the Americans. The genres and expressions are the main concepts being explored by both. But we still have, the beliefs and the beliefs statements, supernatural experiences, and religion. Religion is tied closely to american folk and fairy tales. A lot of the stories have different ways of incorporating the bible, quran, and other works into the make of the tale. Most times, these inclusions are the main motifs and falcons. But, their religion is a little different. First, they say that “Jesus is the new chicken.” They have strong religious beliefs that one shouldn't marry or have babies until marriage. This is very similar to christianity. However, if the Indian community gets word of this they have to be excommunicated.   Being possessed is a large pheno...
